There are moments in rescue when you feel everything all at once.
Anger. Sadness. Gratitude. Hope. Joy.
This is one of those moments.
Please Welcome the newest member of our Big Beautiful BOB Family
We know some of the pictures we posted on our
Facebook page are hard to look at but he’s safe with us now. And the repair work has already begun.
Due to the sensitive nature of this
incredibly emotional and long-awaited Rescue story, there will be no names, locations or other details shared on our social
media platforms.
But this private message to you, dear friends and supporters, will not be shared in that forum.
We ask for your discretion too, for
his sake.
Yes indeed, he's
the one we messaged about recently when we were scrambling to find him an emergency foster home.
We gave him the name, Augustus. "Auggie"
for short. Because it means Great and that seems so very fitting.
It would be easy to give in to all the anger we feel, but it
serves nothing.
So, we will not waste our time or damage our hearts more with casting blame or shame.
We will simply do what we do...serve
the beagles we’re fortunate enough to save.
Like this precious boy.
We will do everything in our power to repair him from nose to
tail and all points in between.
Nothing else matters from this moment on.
The past is behind him now. We ain’t looking back.
Everything that
led him to us may need to remain confidential but everything from this moment forward is ours to share with you. Because Lord
knows we’re going to need your support, your inspirational words of encouragement, and of course your prayers for this
very special boy.
He is the heartbreak in this rescue story. But he is also the GIFT, and we feel beyond blessed for this gift.
We cannot begin
to describe how it felt to embrace him for the first time.
And for every moment since, our hearts have been all a flutter over Auggie.
The way he instantly
fell happily and anxiously into the arms of his beautiful foster family. As though his dreams of them were finally made real.
The way he accepted a medicated bath with a trusting wag of his tail, standing ever so still while foster mom and I gently
cleansed his inflamed skin while whispering sweet nothings in his ear. The way he waddled off after his bubble bath and joyfully
plunked himself into the cozy soft bed kindly donated by one of our supporters. The way he slept ever so peacefully the first
night and then woke up early the next morning to find he didn’t dream it all! The way he made up his own special Happy
Dance when the leash came out for a walk in his new neighbourhood and how delighted he was to meet some new doggy friends
along the way. And how ridiculously cute he was when I came to see him yesterday and he quickly ran back to grab the toy his
foster family got him so he could proudly show it to me before I even got in the door. It's quickly become his signature Greeting
Ritual. And of course, I can’t forget to mention how he’ll give you a not-so-subtle tap of his paw if you dare
to stop an invigorating back massage too soon!
We saved him, that’s true. But we kinda think we’re the lucky ones. To
have this incredible opportunity to bring joy to such a deserving fellow that delights at every turn. It’s the greatest
gift.
And
as for sweet Auggie, I think he knows his wish has finally come true.
Speaking of wishing, we so wish we could publicly thank all the
amazing folks involved in Auggie's rescue - from a very special gal at the local animal shelter who went above and beyond
on her vacation, to a worried bystander who refused to just stand by, and of course, to our fabulous foster parents who chalk
it up to "everything happens for a reason and isn't it funny how life changes on a dime". And last but not least,
the vet that fateful day, who juggled several emergencies at her clinic to help the unplanned for patient who has such a way
with pulling heartstrings. Thanks to her, we were able to address the most immediate concern and that was alleviating the
obvious pain he was in from scratching himself raw. We also ran diagnostics to identify the root cause of his ravaged and
long-neglected skin condition hoping to rule out worse case scenarios, began treatment for a severe ear infection, got medications
on board, medicated shampoo to start straight away, and some good food to fill his belly.
So far, we've incurred close to $1,400
but there will be much more ahead to heal this deserving boy. The blood results will dictate our next steps but we hope to
do a dental surgery as his mouth is in horrible condition. No surprise there.
What we are seeing is literally years of neglect. It's going
to take time to undo all that has been done. But we're up for the job.
Your gift for Auggie right now will be impacting one of the most
beautiful souls we've ever had the honour of rescuing.
So THANK YOU from the bottom of our extremely grateful hearts.
Grateful for Auggie. Grateful for everyone involved in his rescue. And Grateful for
you.
